Your web site will be accessible 24 hours a day. The URL of your Shared Domain account will be http://www.pagehost.com/yourname. With a Super Account, your URL would be http://www.yourdomain.com. We dont charge by the page like some other web hosts -- only by space required (additional space beyond 2 meg is only $1.50 per meg per month). Email aliases (whatever@yourdomain.com) are available with a Super Account for $2.00/address/month (maximum email alias charge is $10.00 per month no matter how many aliases you need). Additional domain names can be hosted for $10/month ($7.50/month if 10 or more).
Payment
Prepayment is required and due the first of each month. Fees for web sites formed mid way through a month will be pro-rated. You can mail payment so long as we receive it within the grace period of 10 days. To insure quickest possible account setup, we also accept payment by credit card online. Details will be emailed after order is placed.
Terms: At the end of the grace period, you can no longer make changes to your web site. At 20 days past due, your web site is deactivated; at 30 days, your web site is deleted from our system.
HTML Submission
Changes to your web site are made using our own PHU (PageHost Uploader) or NuPHU (a more powerful version of PHU with more features) that allows you to upload your files instantly from within Netscape 2.0 or higher. No longer do you need to go back and forth between programs to submit your files and then view them. And you dont have to wait for us to post your files. We have both a demo of PHU and a demo of NuPHU that you can experiment with to see which best fits your needs. If you cant use Netscape, you can mail a disk with all the files or email the files (generally your web site is updated within 24 hours of receipt).

€Do I need a special program to write HTML?
No, you can do it in any word processing or text editing program
(even those that were available many years ago ... before HTML
was even invented). The only trick is you must know the HTML
conventions and standards. For this, there are many helper
programs if you dont want to have to refer to the HTML guides

We can, but there are many other people far more qualified, so
we dont sell these services normally. Our mission is to provide
an affordably priced, user-friendly place to host web pages.
€Can I hire somebody to write HTML to put on PAGEHOST?
Yes, many folks out there will be happy to work with you on
designing your pages and then can upload them to your PHU account.
They may charge extra to do that; ask that in advance.
€What speed is the PAGEHOST connection?
45 megabit/second T-3
€What kind of down-time can I expect?
Barring unforeseen circumstances and acts of nature, the only
downtime you can expect is 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday
mornings -- and sometimes NOT even then.
€How do I get my files uploaded?
With a Basic Account, the method is PHU (PageHost Uploader). After
registration, you will be given the codes and instruction on
uploading from within Netscape 2.0 or higher using PHU. With the Plus
Accounts, the method is NuPHU. NuPHU gives you more control, more
information and the ability to easily create additional subdirectories.
With an FTP account, you can use PHU, NuPHU and/or FTP. You can also
mail the files to us on a disk or email the files to
upload@pagehost.com. Please be sure to specify which file goes in
which subdirectory if appropriate. Keep in mind that when using any
other method than PHU or NuPHU, expect slight delays in updating. Our

€What can I put on my pages and can I re-sell my space?
You can do with it what you want and put in it what you want (as
long as its legal and not adult in nature). In fairness to other
shared domain clients, if your traffic exceeds reasonable amounts
as is usually the case with any adult-oriented site, we may ask
you to find a (and probably higher priced) dedicated server.
€My friend has a list of 10,000 email addresses I want to email my new web
site address to. Can I do this?
No. Please read our Acceptbale Use Policy before you get too carried
away with your intrusive marketing plans.

€When do I pay and how much?
Our fees are paid in advance (except the initial one-week
period is collected at the end of that week). For a 2-meg
Basic Account, the charge is $6.95/month; for a 2-meg Plus
Account, the charge is $8.95/month. Additional space, if
needed, is also paid for in advance. The rate is
$1.50/meg/month.
€What do I get?
For your basic fees, you get the amount of WWW Server space at
PAGEHOST that youre paying for. Beyond that, theres not much
else you get. Except of course our unlimited smiling email
tech support. We are not in the business of providing internet
surfing accounts or email accounts. There are many other people
who can provide that better and cheaper than we could.

CONSTRUCTING PAGES FOR PAGEHOST ACCOUNTS

€How do I display images on my pages?
Upload the image you want to show (usually a GIF or JPEG). You
can specify a special directory if you want to clean up your site
(ie. images or pictures ... but NOT /icons -- its reserved).
Then in your HTML, just call it with this:
This assumes the file logo.gif is in the
directory yourlogname/images. You can of course add any border or
alignment commands you like; just refer to your HTML guide.
€How do I do image maps?
You need to upload to PAGEHOST both your image file (usually GIF
or JPEG) and your NCSA imagemap file. The image file is easy.
To creat an imagemap, there are tons of helper applications out
there if your HTML kit doesnt have one. After you have these two
ingredients, the call to it goes like this:
In this example, menu.map and menu.gif are both located in /yourname.
Depending on the complexity of your site, you may not need to have
a separate maps directory, but if you have a Plus Account, you can
easily create a new directory if you like. The image map should be
NCSA format (usually your choices are CERN or NCSA). Heres an example
in case youre wondering what a map file looks like:

€How can I install a feedback form on my pages?
-The easiest way to install a feedback form is to use the built-in
PAGEHOST mailform.cgi script. Create your HTML so the form calls

POST. As an example of how to use this script, take a look at our

Several variables are available for use with this script:
recipient: this is where the form contents get sent.
Example:
subject: this will appear as the subject of the email you get.
Example:
email: this will allow the user to type in their supposed email address.
Example:
realname: this allows the user to type in their supposed real name.
Example:
redirect: this is the URL of the page to go after the form is sent.
If one is not provided, the user will get a default page thanking them.
The default page is NOT very pretty... we HIGHLY recommend a REDIRECT page.

Beyond that, you can come up with as many variables and radio
buttons, check boxes and whatever else your heart desires. The
results will be emailed in a format similar to:

€Can I put a counter on my page?
Yes.
Email us the page name and directory that you need a counter on.
We will initalize it and email back to you the code to place on
your page. With very little exception, the code to place on your
page is:
Thats usually the format, but when you need a counter, we will
email the code to you.
Text counters like You are the 33rd person to drop by are not
compatible with PHU and are not offered.
€Can I install other CGIs in my file area?
No. On the PHU-accessed shared-domain accounts, CGI scripts are
not allowed. If you need scripting, check into our virtual server
options at http://www.pagehost.com/services. These accounts also
offer full FTP and many email aliases.
€Can I uses Server Side Includes (SSI) with my account.
No.
€But I REALLY want groovy things for cheap!
There are several people out ther who have CGIs you can use by
linking to them from your page. Some are free and some charge
money. The service were most impressed with for selection
of what they offer is X-Point CGI. For 50 cents a month, theyll
let you use 13 different power tools -- from a clock to a
bulletin board to banner rotation. Find them at:

€Can I get my own domain name?
Yes. Although PAGEHOST was designed as a low-cost server solution
to get people onto the web and we still do our part in delaying
the eminent overflowing and depletion of domain names by using a
generic-sounding PAGEHOST.COM, if youve gotten big enough that
you really must have one, we can set this up for you also. Your
Basic Account or your Plus Account can be upgraded at any time
to a Super account. A 2-meg Super Account is controlled using NuPHU
and costs $19.95/month with NO setup fee. We can also register
your .COM//NET/.ORG/.US domain for $19/year. Email us for details.
€What happens to all my links around the world that point to my PHU
account when I get a domain name?
We will forward your visitors to your new domain name.
€Does the PAGEHOST server support NCSA or CERN conventions?
NCSA mostly.
€Can I use aliasing?
Not usually and there usually isnt a need for it. If you know what
it is and have a need for it, email us. We will evaluate these
requests on a case-by-base basis.
