Disk Space... Does More Matter ?

Youve seen other hosting companies advertising 20 or 30mb or even 75 megabytes of disk space storage.
Disk space is used to do 3 things (1) hold your web site content (2) hold your inbound e-mails until you read them and (3) hold your server side scripts and databases.

Fact: Over 90\% of all web sites contain less than 20 pages with an average of 75k (75,000 bytes) per page, that means most web sites rarely exceed 1.5 megabytes.

Fact: E-mails are only temporarily stored in your webspace until you read them at which time they are downloaded to your local computer. Emails are text and rarely exceed 2k per message so even if you got 50 e-mails per day and forgot to read them for a month, you would only use 3 megabytes of storage space (more with attachments).

Fact: Very few web sites even use server side data storage programs. Some sites use small programs called Perl scripts that rarely exceed 20k and even advanced websites that store databases rarely exceed 500k.

What does all this mean....? If you have a typical website displaying pictures and text that uses 10 e-mail accounts, you will not likely exceed even 15 megabytes of total disk space.

Lowest hosting gives you 100 megabytes of storage per account, more than enough for most applications. In the rare event you need additional disk space you can add another more space at just $1.00/month per 20mb prepaid annually.

Traffic... Why Unlimited Is So Important

Most web hosting companies advertise 500 megabytes - 2000 megabytes (2 Gigabytes) of traffic per month and charge 4-7 cents or more per megabyte over your allocation.

These companies will tell you that with an average page size of 40k, youll get 50,000 pages on a 2 Gig account and this will be adequate for your needs.....Or is it ?

Consider: The average page size has grown to about 75k due to increased use of graphics and Java scripts, and that does not even address the use of 500k flash animations used on some web site home pages.

Consider: Each customer going to your website will view at least the home page, and those that are interested in your site will view other pages as well. It is not uncommon for a customer to view 10 or more different pages within your site and consume 750k per visit. That means your 2G/m account would only allow 2666 visits per month or roughly 89 visits per day. If you had even moderate traffic of 150 visits per day, you would exceed your bandwidth allotment by 1.37G and have to pay an extra $54.80 in bandwidth surcharges.

For example, one of our customers www.southafricatraveler.com runs a very graphic intensive 7 meg /100 page site and averages 15 page views/customer with 120 customers hitting their site each day. If they were on a 2G/m limited site they would be paying an extra $71.20 per month for bandwidth surcharges. Just imagine if they did a large advertising campaign and had 400 clients/day; it would cost them $424.00 per month in bandwidth surcharges !

Lowest Hosting includes Unlimited Bandwidth with each account so you never have to worry about extra bandwidth charges.

E-mail Accounts... Why You Need More Than You Think

Most businesses assign each employee or department their own distinct (POP-3) e-mail address i.e. bobsmith@yoursite.com or accounting@yoursite.com. These accounts are accessible using e-mail software like Outlook, Eudora, Outlook Express, and should not be confused with unlimited virtual e-mail accounts.

It is very common for even the smallest company to separate departments by creating distinct e-mail accounts used to manage correspondence. Most companies will use at least 5 POP-3 E-mail accounts as a minimum plus one POP-3 e-mail account for each employee....for example:

1- webmaster@yourdomain.com: For customers to reach your web designer for feedback or bad links.
2- administrator@yourdomain.com: For the general administrator of the website.
3- support@yourdomain.com: For support inquiries (you may want to setup multiple support accounts).
4- sales@yourdomain.com: For general sales questions and inquiries.
5- orders@yourdomain.com: For your payment processor forwards order confirmations to.
6- accounting@yourdomain.com: For suppliers or customers to contact your accounting dept.
7- employee1@yourdomain.com: An e-mail account for each of your employees.
8- personal1@yourdomain.com: An e-mail account for your personal use.
9- spam@yourdomain.com: An e-mail account all non pop-3 mail is forwarded to for review or deletion.

You will probably want to create a few more disposable junk accounts that are useful for opt in mailing lists that collect a lot of spam. These junk accounts simply forward their messages to your regular mail account and can be deleted when they are no longer useful.
Lowest Hosting includes Unlimited POP-3 E-mail Accounts so you wont ever have to pay for extra addresses as you add more employees or departments.

Another reason you will need more e-mail accounts is to setup drone autoresponders. These are e-mail accounts that are used by your company to automatically reply back to your customers with a message specific to a marketing offer or to confirm removal from a mailing list. Complex autoresponders can be set to always reply, or to only respond based upon a key word or phrase within the subject or body of the message.
Lowest Hosting includes Unlimited Complex Autoresponders with each hosting account

Your hosting account includes both POP-3 e-mail accounts and catch-all e-mail. Catch-all is used to create virtual email accounts. It catches all addresses not already defined as POP-3 and forwards them to a single address. This can be used if you want to forward many departments to one e-mail address; for example: support@yourdomain & webmaster@yourdomain... etc could all be forwarded to bobsmith@yourdomain and therefore allow one address or person to receive mail from multiple virtual accounts.
Lowest Hosting allows you to create Unlimited Virtual E-mail Accounts using Catch-All e-mail.

*** WARNING *** *** WARNING *** *** WARNING ***

We have seen other hosting companies advertise unlimited e-mail accounts and not make the distinction that they are virtual while failing to offer SMTP outbound mail service. Without having both SMTP & POP-3 e-mail, you would only be able to receive e-mails but your outbound e-mails would be from your local ISP account. Imagine how unprofessional it would be when someone replies to sales@yourdomain.com but you can only respond to them with r343@earthlink.net. Other hosting companies only include 1 or 2 POP-3 e-mail accounts and as you run out of email accounts charge an extra $1-$2 per month per additional POP-3 account significantly raising your hosting costs.

Lowest Hosting gives you Unlimited POP-3 E-mail Accounts with full SMTP (outbound e-mail) service.

Free Sites... Are They Really Free ?

No business can afford to offer a service for free without finding a way to defray their costs. Dont be fooled by companies that offer free domain names only to charge you a domain transfer fee or force you to host your name with their service at some exhorbitant rate.

Companies that offer free hosting use many techniques to recoup their money:

Banner Advertising: These are for personal use and include annoying advertising banners along the top or sides of your page making it obvious youre on a free service. These banners are both distracting, and often lure your viewers to leave your website.
Lowest hosting never forces you to use banner advertising.

Pop Under Advertising: Free services often use hidden pop unders which open and appear in a hidden fashion and are not seen until after your page is closed. Unfortunately pop unders can cause some browsers to lock up and freeze causing the client to reboot and lose your page. Pop unders are another annoyance that may keep clients from revisiting your website.
Lowest hosting does not load any pop under advertisements on your webpage.

Subdomain VS Your Domain: Free services often use subdomain names which THEY own and are a part of their primary name. Yourdomainname.freewebsitehosting.com is an example. These names are longer and harder to remember and are not always properly indexed by the search engines. Worst of all you have no control if they raise their prices.
Lowest Hosting offers only full top level domains that you own... ie: yourdomain.com .

Mailing List Sales: Some companies offer a free webpage only if you agree to complete a demographic survey and to receive constant advertising (Junk Mail) offers in your email.
Lowest Hosting does not collect, disseminate, or sell its customers private information.

No Advanced Features: Free services dont offer advanced features that some websites require (CGI/SSI/PHP/MYSQL) ultimately limiting your web site design options.
Lowest Hosting offers you a full service webspace with all the features you need.

Limited Disk Space/Bandwidth: Free services severely limit your disk space and bandwidth rendering it almost useless. Once you are established on their system, you will most likely require additional bandwidth or disk space and upgrade to their premium paid package.
Lowest Hosting offers you a full 80 megabytes of webspace storage and unlimited traffic.

Limited E-mail: Free services only allow you a single e-mail address and dont offer catch all and other services that are crucial to running a website. They also limit the size of the files you can receive and the amount of storage space to hold your e-mails. Worst of all they attach advertising messages on the footer of your E-mails and anyone you email will know youre on a free service. Many of these companies get you hooked on using their service only to charge for it later. Lastly, many are halting their free service altogether (Click HERE for some recent examples) forcing you to quickly find a new e-mail provider and then endure the tedious task of trying to contact everyone you ever e-mailed and every newsletter or subscription in order to inform them of your new address.
Lowest hosting offers Catch-All E-mail plus Unlimited POP-3 E-mail accounts with full SMTP.

Forced E-Commerce: Many free E-commerce websites force you use their gateway or merchant account providers. These merchant accounts usually have much higher discount rates or fees allowing the hosting company to make a percentage on your sales which can end up costing you thousands of dollars per year.
Our shopping cart links allow you to choose any merchant account or gateway provider you like.

About Our Firm Equipment and Networks
Lowest Hosting Inc. is a division of Payphone Technology Inc., a 13 year old design and development company with numerous patents in the telecommunications field. Our hosting division came out of our extensive experience running web servers and computer networks. Lowest hosting is a privately held debt free and profitable division that was started in 1999 and has grown to be one of the premier discount hosts on the Internet.

Although our prices are low, there is nothing discount about our equipment or networks. We use Dell & Compaq Name Servers running Apache 1.3xx web server and Qmail e-mail server software on Redhat Linux 2.4.2 operating system with internal firewalls and ani-spam filters. All servers are dynamically monitored 24/7 every 3 minutes to insure all services are functioning properly. This means our monitoring system actually tests and confirms web, ftp, e-mail, dns services are working and is more complete than simple port monitoring.

Unlike most discount hosts, Lowesthosting.com uses two separate geographically independent networks to separate our critical NS1 & NS2 name servers per per RFC2182 3.1. Each dedicated name server is slaved and mirrored and uses fail-over monitoring to insure that your domain name will always point to your webserver regardless of network, router or critical path failure.

Our web servers are all pentium III 1ghz with 512mb - 1gb ram and use 7200 rpm dual Raid hard drives to mirror your data real time and insure against hardware failure. To further safeguard your data , all webservers are backed up daily using compressed sequential disk archiving. This means we store a copy of all data and e-mail for 7 - 14 days so in the event of an emergency, we have a sizable safety window to retrieve critical data before the data is overwritten and the cycle repeats.

Lowesthosting.com manages servers in two Network Operation Centers (NOCs) in Georgia and Texas to assist in load balancing and redundancy of service. Both state of the art NOCs incorporate dual power grids, UPS power backup, diesel generator backup, gated security, internal fire suppression, and temperature controlled environments.

Using dual Nocs and fail-over mirroring technology allows us to maintain a 100\% uptime for our critical internal name servers and customer support servers and our webservers still average 99.7+\% uptime which is well above industry norms. This means that if a problem did develop, you can always reach our website for news and communication so you would not be left in the dark.

Our Network Operation Centers use Juniper M20 Routers BGP4 routing to connected to 3 independent tier backbone providers via redundant fiber entry points and multiple OC-12 sonet rings to provide maximum network throughput and redundnacy.

Lowesthosting.com is an authorized agent for an ICANN approved registrar. All domains are registered in your name
and include full access to modify your domain settings at any time. Hosting is not required.
