Postrocks Servers are based on the Unix/Linux platform. They are built as mission-critical systems with special attention to performance and reliability. Postrock builds most of their servers themselves on location. This provides enhanced levels of control, flexibility and the ability to remotely anticipate and resolve problems before a customers business is affected. All servers run a customized version of RedHat Linux and utilize Apache Web Server software and SSL.
Currently Postrock servers are Dual Pentium 1.7 GHz processors with 1024 Megs of RAM. They are port monitored every five minutes for any irregularities in the system. Postrock provides the Apache Web server so their Advanced Plan customers can manage Internet communications and transactions, answer requests from browsers, retrieve requested files, execute CGI scripts, and return document or script results.
Apache also manages data transaction security on domains and Web sites through SSL encryption keys and certification, as well as directory protection for files stored on a domain or Web site.
The Apache Web Server Manager allows Postrock.com customers to:

Open SSH provides secure remote access to another system over a network.

File Transfer
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) transfers files across the Internet.
ProFTPD is a ftp server primarily written for the various Unix variants. It has been designed to be much like Apache in concept taking many of the ideas (configuration format, modular design, etc) from it.
After a page/site is created, it needs to be uploaded to the customers web server. Customers can either FTP their files via the command line (i.e. DOS), or use an FTP client which executes all the commands in a drag-and-drop interface. Postrock.com highly recommends the latter to beginners and experts alike. FTP clients make the publishing process simple.
Most FTP clients have the same basic layout, functionality, and price. Choosing one is simply a matter of personal preference. Some of the more popular clients for Windows-based computers include WS_FTP, CuteFTP, and BulletProof FTP and for Macintosh computers include Fetch, and Interarchy. All clients come with documentation and getting started usually doesnt take long to figure out.

Mail Access Protocol
POP3 (Post Office Protocol, version 3) and IMAP (Internet Messaging Access Protocol) mail servers store incoming email messages until users download them to their computers.
In addition to storing incoming email messages, the IMAP server allows users to archive email messages in folders, share mailboxes with other users, access multiple mail servers at one time, and more efficiently access email attachments.

Allows customers to work with SQL databases.

Php My Admin Web Based MySQL Administration allows management of SQL databases over the Internet. php My Admin can handle administering entire MySQL database servers or just a single database over the Internet by removing any platform-specific limitations.

Support Features
Using the Help System built-in to Web Control customers can open a book and display the topics it contains. They can also click the Help Icon on any page of the Web Control which will open context-sensitive Help that provides information about the page.
Postrock.com performs daily backups in case of system failure, but recommend that customers make regular backups on their own using the Web Control Backup/Restore feature. Postrocks restore charges may run as high as $150 per incident if the problem is on a customers end.
While e-mail is the preferred method of support, Postrock.com also provides phone support if necessary. Their office hours are 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. (Central Time USA).
