Hosting multiple domains under a single hosting account
Although web hosting companies nowadays offer users the options to host multiple domains under a single account name, the cost can be rather expensive. At times they will charge the second and subsequent domains as much as they charge for the first.
A solution to that problem is to subscribe for a reseller account. Because a reseller account is meant to be used for users to resell domains and hosting plans, they are featured with an option to “park” multiple domains. The best thing, you do not need to be a reseller to get a reseller account.
Of course, a reseller account is going to cost you more than a normal hosting account, but you can “park” as many domain names without incurring add-on fees. Depending on how many websites you are going to host in the single account, you may want to look for a reseller account that offers unlimited domain name addition.
Also, do calculate properly how much bandwidth you roughly need to use monthly. This can be done by counting the number of pages you have in total and the number of hits monthly. So, for example, if you are hosting 10 websites with 20 pages each, at an average 50kb per page,
10 x 20 x 50 = 10,000KB (10MB) of disk space
And
10 x 100 x 50KB x 30 = 1,500MB (1.5GB) of traffic bandwidth
Opt for reseller accounts that also offer you to upgrade to another plan for free or without penalties. This will enable you to move up or down the plans whenever you feel that you need to have a change in your disk and bandwidth space.
Determining your main website is easily accomplished too. Just allocate your largest website (the one with the biggest disk space and heaviest bandwidth) to be as your main site.
As far as the pricing is concerned, resellers account can be acquired to as low as $10 per month. Of course there are also ones that will cost you up to hundreds or thousands of dollars, depending of the features offered. Just choose the one that will suit your needs the most.
